NWH's Wound Care Program Helps Patients Heal Inside And Out

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- After most invasive medical procedures, rest is crucial to making a full recovery. But what happens when despite best efforts, surgical wounds don't heal properly or need extra attention? That's where the doctors and staff at Northern Westchester Hospital's Wound Care Clinic come in.

Mort discusses his wound care experience at NWH.

Following treatment for colorectal cancer, Mort knew he needed specialized wound care management. "I asked my doctors if there was a wound care clinic that could help me with the problem I was having," he said. "They told me about the Wound Care Center at Northern Westchester Hospital, a facility that is very professional and knows exactly what they are doing."

Mort wasn't alone; each year millions of people suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds related to various conditions. They can be triggered by diabetes, obesity, cancer treatment, compromised immune systems, poor circulation and more.

New patients at the Wound Care Center meet with the doctor, who does a comprehensive review of prior medical conditions. The information gathered enables the wound care clinic’s team to diagnose the cause of delayed healing, and develop a comprehensive treatment plan. Solutions can include hyperbaric oxygen therapy -- or HBOT -- a technique that applies high levels of oxygen to promote healing by spending brief periods of time in a hyperbaric chamber.

For Mort, the doctors and staff at Northern Westchester Hospital helped him solve an uncomfortable problem. "I recognized that I was in the right place at the right time for what I needed," he said. "They were extremely efficient, knowledgeable and treated me with the utmost care and respect."

"The Wound Care Center changed my life because it's here," said Mort. "This is the right place because they know what I need."
